CrayoNano, in collaboration with researchers from Germany, is trying to overcome the challenges of planar LEDs by growing 1-dimensional structures on graphene. This article in Semiconductor Today describes a recent paper published by Mazid Munshi et al. which shows ordered pyramidal growth done in experiments in Erlangen, Germany during 2016.
Another paper, published by our CTO Ida Marie Høiaas along with researchers from Japan and Norway, is gaining some traction. Described in recent articles by EE News Europe and Graphene Info the paper shows a working UV-A LED grown in 2017 by using RF-PAMBE (Radio Frequency Plasma Assisted Molecular Beam Epitaxy).
