CrayoNano acquires full rights to 14 patent families – securing the future of its nanotechnology-based UV-C LED products

Trondheim, Norway – December 21, 2020 – CrayoNano has entered into an agreement with NTNU Technology Transfer, the technology transfer office at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) where CrayoNano acquires the full ownership of more than 100 patents in 14 patent families.

“We are currently commercializing our nanotechnology and owning all of the IP is strategically important for CrayoNano to secure the future of our company”, says CEO Jo Uthus at CrayoNano.

“NTNU Technology Transfer has over the last years developed a strong relationship with CrayoNano in securing and developing intellectual property. The company was established based on research from NTNU and has continued this important research collaboration with NTNU. We are happy to see that the company is now commercializing this intellectual property in the growing field of UV-C LEDs backed by strong interest from investors and vast market opportunities. This can potentially have a great impact on society and hence contributing to NTNUs “Knowledge for a better world” vision”, says Stein Eggan, CEO of NTNU Technology Transfer.

A USD 2 billion market

Independent analysts categorize the UV-C LED market in hypergrowth, growing to an expected USD 2 billion market in 2024. Public awareness of disinfection caused by increased population density and pandemics drive the need for new cost-efficient disinfection solutions as an enabler for a healthier and safer society.

“The awareness of disinfection solutions has accelerated materially with the Covid-19 outbreak. The market potential is huge, and we can provide a technology solution supporting everybody’s health”, says Uthus.

“We stand strong” CrayoNano specializes in UV-C LED packaged chips for disinfection of surface, water and air. The acquisition of the full patent portfolio secures the IP to CrayoNano’s planned product portfolio.

“By securing full control of all of our IP I feel safe that we stand strong when we launch our first products next year”, says Uthus
